So Who Knew Roses Had Hips? The Benefits of Rose Hip Oil

Between The Morning Show, Magazines and Pia Miranda, for the greater part of this year I have heard more than a few praises about Rose Hip Oil. Whenever I hear the words 'oil' and 'face' in the same sentence I tend to cringe so to put it kindly I was skeptical about this so called "miracle product".

Rose Hip Oil is, legitimately, a fruit oil extracted from the hips of roses! For those of you who are perplexed by the very idea of that, according to my research "the hip is the fruit that is left after a rose has bloomed and the petals have fallen", so pretty much the oil is filled with vitamins, antioxidants and other goodies your skin will just want to soak up!

There are a million different brands on the market but the version I purchased was one by A'kin, not for any particular reason it was just one I grabbed, thankfully it sure is working a treat on my skin!

So here's the low down on exactly what is in Rose Hip Oil which makes it so fantastic:

  • Essential fatty acids- Pretty much omega-3, 6 and 9, all of which are vital for our general health and the health of our skin. Our bodies can't naturally produce these fats and thus by using Rose Hip Oil you are giving your skin the ability to revitalise skin cells and to restore damaged skin tissue giving your face an overall brighter appearance!
  • Vitamin A- This helps to prevent premature ageing caused by exposure to the sun, now I know I am only 18- not exactly a grandma but living in Australia my skin is constantly exposed to the sun and UV rays, even on cloudy days and in winter! I don't know about you but I don't want to end up looking like an old leather hand bag by the time I am 30 and this product is meant to help me ensure that it doesn't happen!
  • Antioxidants- Similarly to the other two, antioxidants help to protect and repair skin, smoothing over wrinkles, burns, scars and here's a fun fact, you can also use Rose Hip Oil to get ready of those dreaded stretch marks! Roughly 2 years ago I had chicken pox and I was left with a few small scars on my face, although I have only used this product a week, they are already less noticeable.

As you can see in the image above, you simply apply 3-4 drops on to your fingertips, massage it in your face and neck area and then follow with your moisturiser! I have only been use this product at night as at the time I bought this I picked a new daily moisturiser which containes Rose Hip Oil by Natio- I was completely unaware of this till I got home- but just after using it purely at night for roughly a week I can already seen and feel a massive difference in the tone and texture of my skin! As it gets further into winter I will most likely start using it in the day as well,  the great thing about it is that it practically disappears once it hits your skin! It soaks in so fast and doesn't leave an oily residue or shine making it 100% fine for all skin types!
