"Winter is Coming!"… Brace your skin with the Revlon ColorStay™ Aqua Range.

It is true, something good does always come out of something bad… or in this case something good came out of blindly buying a product with the expectation of it being something else….

For a while now I have been considering trying out mineral make up, I have never dabbled in this realm before and I figured it was about time I did. I wanted to play around with something a bit more affordable first though just to get an idea of what "minerals" were like on my skin etc. before spending big bucks on high end products . Strolling the aisles of Priceline (as you do) I saw Revlon had a 2 for $45 sale and thought bargain! Without so much as reading the label I picked up the Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup and the Revlon ColorStay Aqua Finishing Powder.

Notice the word AQUA? Well, yeah, I didn't. So, ladies and gentleman you can imagine the shock I was in when I began to apply the mineral makeup only to be overcome by a distinct moistness…  (God I hate the word but it is most appropriate in this context)

Thanks to my trusty friend the Internet I was able to find out exactly what was going on in no time!
Pretty much the Revlon ColorStay Aqua Range is contains coconut water! I know out of all things but I assure you it is for a good reason!

Coconut Water has been proven to boost and retain the skin’s moisture, which is perfect for us Aussies who are just entering the cooler seasons. I am certain I am not the only one who's skin tends to dry out rather dramatically in winter time, between wind, heaters and air con it is important to do all you can to ensure your skin is well protected and properly nourished. This means going beyond the daily moisturiser…

I would describe the Mineral Makeup Foundation as providing a light-to-medium coverage on its own, but it is definitely build able.  I personally like to use it over my Revlon PhotoReady BB cream as I feel the two really complement each other. It has an extremely fluffy, smooth texture and contains small light reflecting particles providing your skin with a bit of sparkle, making you look more refreshed and awake. If you do decide to try these products don't say I didn't warn you, the coconut water does mean that the powder feels WET upon application but, it does dry rather quickly leaving your skin looking luminous. I mainly use this on days when I am working or more around home, rather than my foundation when I go out at night or on days when I am out and about. To use I apply only a very small amount to my Real Techniques Powder Brush, tap off excess product and sweep around my face, which gives a slightly air brushed finish- I initially tried it using a stiffer haired Kabuki brush and buffed it into the skin but this made it quite splotchy and patchy, clinging to dry bits yet not other parts.

The Finishing Powder also gives you an "invigorating  burst of coconut water" goodness and once again dries rather instantly. I use this over my liquid foundation to help set my make up. Revlon claims that it "minimises the look of pores and fine lines", I can vouch for the first parts as it doesn't drag attention to my pores or make them look bigger but I can't comment on the fine lines aspect… I also apply this with my Real Techniques powder brush as it's supplements the matte finish of the powder without making me look flat. Overall, I am really liking this at the moment as it isn't as cakey as other powders I have and doesn't make my skin look lifeless, I also know it will be beneficial to my skin throughout winter.

I don't see any reason you can't use these products in summer as well, especially for those with dry skin I would recommend using it all year round! The wet/ cooling sensation is rather strange and I am still not 100% sold on it but I think the intention and idea is cool and I will continue to use both, though in saying that I can't see them becoming holy grail items or anything

Have you used either of these products? Did you like the "cooling" sensation? Let me know below!
